STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT & DESIGN
Structural assessments are a key instrument in assisting clients understand the capabilities and limitations of their assets. Often an in-depth assessment of proposed operational loading can yield dividends in terms of enhanced operational load flexibility. These improvements in many cases can be proven without imposing significant operational restrictions.
Similar to planning, the earlier in the lifespan of a project that experienced engineering judgement is introduced, the greater the overall whole of life cost savings are realised. We take a whole of life approach to design because capital cost savings can be undermined by ongoing operational and maintenance premiums, particularly in aggressive marine environments. This is reflected in the our designs by the selection of appropriate and practical structural solutions, materials, specifications and quality assurance.
Our structural assessment service experience has included:
- Quay crane load assessments
- Mobile harbour crane load assessments
- Port Load Chart assessments
- Structural assessments of deteriorated wharves
We have wide ranging maritime structural design experience including:
- Container terminal wharf structures
- Dry bulk platforms and jetties
- Liquid bulk tanker berths
- Breakbulk wharves
- Temporary construction wharves
- Berthing and mooring dolphins
- Land bollards
Our designs incorporate measures for constructability and durability including provision where possible for land based construction and precasting. Where possible we engage with local contractors to identify optimal materials and forms of construction for cost effectiveness in various forms of early contractor involvement.
