Detailed design and documentation, technical advice and construction phase services for upgrade works at Nelson Pier including a new sheet piled mooring dolphin, mooring bollards and capstan, foam fenders and fender support systems for the pier, impressed current cathodic protection system and mechanical and electrical systems. The upgrade of Nelson Pier was to enable the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) hulls to be berthed and moored safely at the existing pier for an extended period. The LHD vessel is Australian Navy’s largest ever warship with an Loa of 231m long, 32m beam and a laden displacement of 27,000 tonnes. Each of the two LHDs were to undergo fitout and commissioning over a 2year period. The project was completed to a tight timeframe to ensure the construction works were completed in time for the first of the LHD vessels to berth in November 2012.
