BENTLEY CHEMPLAX REDEVELOPMENT – STRADDLE OPERATIONS

Home >> Projects >> Bentley Chemplax Redevelopment – Straddle Operations
Planning and detailed design of the infrastructure to support the extension of straddle carrier operations within into West Swanson Container Terminal. Services included terminal planning, geotechnical and contamination site surveys, footings for straddle exchange area extension, heavy duty pavement, piling for light towers, services including stormwater, high and low voltage power, fire services and lighting, construction cost estimates, tender documentation and construction supervision. The project presented significant geotechnical and environmental challenges arising from Coode Island silts, potential acid sulphate soils and soil contamination and involved careful consideration of ground treatment and residual settlement issues to achieve cost savings arising from the effective reuse of in-situ materials and minimising off-site disposal. The site was partly within the existing operating terminal and required careful phasing of the works to minimise any disruption to ongoing container terminal operations whilst ensuring staged works areas were practical and cost effective.
